J. Waid Griffin

Each summer J. Waid Griffin leads "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" plein air workshops in beautiful New Mexico.

Mr. Griffin will take students to different locations each day.

He keeps his student limit to just eight artists in order to spend as much time as possible with each person.

Waid aims to help each student develop greater skills of perception, methodology, and therefore greater proficiency. He encourages artists to “see” and paint from the heart, developing their self-expression.

Five full days of painting in beautiful New Mexico!

About the instructor:

Mr. Griffin began oil painting 40 years ago. He holds a BFA in Painting from Texas Tech University and a MM from the School of Music, also at Texas Tech. He is a former member of the Texas Watercolor Society. He is currently a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and a signature member of the Oil Painters of America. He also teaches art and music to young people at Rio Grande Enrichment Studies, a mid-high and high school tutorial program in Albuquerque. "I encourage artists to avoid "isms" in art and life, and to beware of "false-identifications" in their creative expressions.
