Artists are inspired by the idea of people coming from many different places to settle and work in a new environment. At Schoonoord this was happening in the years around 1850 when the peatlands were cultivated. Not far from this place the countryside is sandy and there the first settlers were farmers which were living already there for hundreds of years. What borders are crossed, what land is cultivated, what was the influence on the different cultures in this borderland. Conditions for all proposals are that it are spatial installations or structures which are able to survive the conditions on the site (forest, weather) for at least seven months. |
